Internship, Special Programs: AMBER Alerts and Autistic Elopement
About The Position
Interns will be assigned to tasks under Special Programs in the Missing Children Division (MCD) with a focus on data collection for AMBER Alerts and autistic elopement. The assigned intern(s) will fulfill one or more of the following duties with the potential to take on additional responsibilities or collaborate with other teams or across divisions as needed. This internship offers the opportunity to support specialized research projects on populations of missing children, including children on the autism spectrum, and resources for response to these incidents via data collection, data entry and cleaning, qualitative data coding, and other tasks. Interns will also communicate with law enforcement or other agencies at the state and federal level to identify, access, and refine relevant data sets or incident information. They will develop strong familiarity with organizational resources and liaise with law-enforcement for broad case support or resource facilitation. Additionally, interns may assist with NCMEC projects as assigned, with potential opportunities to work with the NCMEC Call Center or the Analytical Services Division.
Requirements
- Completed at least two (2) years of college with a concentration in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Data Science or related field
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Excellent communication skills
- Display quality control and high standards when performing data entry
- Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information
- Ability to work independently
Nice To Haves
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Research, data collection, or data analysis experience
- Academic, personal, or professional experience with children on the Autism Spectrum or the topic of Autism
- A two-semester or more commitment is preferable but not required
