About The Position

Works PRN under the general direction of the CVRCC Rape Crisis Advocacy Manager to provide holistic advocacy support and services to victims and survivors of sexual violence. Completes initial intake of acute cases and works closely with other victim services agencies, law enforcement, courts, county, community groups, and faith-based organizations to ensure victims of crime understand their rights and relate to the resources necessary to promote healing and resiliency after trauma. Shifts for this position consist of nights, weekends, and holidays (12am-8am, 8am-4pm, and 4pm-12am).

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in crisis intervention, counseling/case management or advocacy, of which one (1) year must include working with people impacted by trauma
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, counseling, criminal justice or related field; OR An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
  • Must be willing to be on call as scheduled and willing to work evenings, overnight, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver’s License or secure one by date of employment.
  • Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet County requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
  • Must be able to respond effectively to crisis situations.
  • Must complete the Orientation/Training phase of employment within three months of employment start date.

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive victim advocacy services to victims of sexual violence and their families. Services are mainly provided at CVRCC. However, they may also be provided at hospitals and nursing homes if needed.
  • Accompanies victims to intake with SANE and documents victim’s history of assault.
  • Accompanies victim to sexual assault exam if requested by victim.
  • Performs crisis intervention counseling and explains resources, rights, and options available to victims of crime and their families.
  • Interfaces with other CVRCC and community partner agency staff, as well as outside public and private agencies, to communicate victims’ need(s) and to make necessary referrals and arrangements.
  • Assists victims in developing individualized safety plans and aids in the placement of victims in emergency shelter.
  • Maintains confidential case files with appropriate documentation and physical security systems.
  • Participates in quarterly after-hours staff meetings and trainings.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.
