About The Position

As a Mining Project Manager at Finning Canada, you will be an experienced project leader responsible for managing complex, strategic initiatives. This role involves leading diverse project teams to deliver high-quality results on time and within budget, requiring strong collaboration across internal departments and external partners to identify issues, implement solutions, and ensure sustainable change. Finning is the world's largest Caterpillar dealer, providing unrivalled service for over 80 years. The company sells, rents, and provides parts and service for equipment and engines to customers in various industries, including mining, construction, petroleum, and forestry. Finning employs approximately 14,500 people worldwide and operates in three geographies, with its head office in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in project management with a focus on business improvement and change management.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, including MS Project, Gant Charting, Visio, and advanced MS Office skills.
  • Excellent leadership, facilitation, and relationship management skills with the ability to influence without authority.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills; comfortable managing ambiguity and driving results.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including experience delivering presentations to senior stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP or Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Training in Process Management, Change Management, Quality Management, and/or Lean Methodologies.
  • Familiarity with the Caterpillar organization and mining industry.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple strategic projects using Finning’s Project Management and Continuous Improvement Methodologies, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain project charters and roadmaps in collaboration with Business Owners, Process Owners, and key stakeholders to define scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams, providing clear direction, removing barriers, and ensuring accountability for results.
  • Monitor project performance against established KPIs, budgets, and timelines, implementing corrective actions as needed to stay on track.
  • Facilitate effective communication across all levels of the organization, ensuring stakeholders are informed and engaged throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Champion project management best practices and continuous improvement principles, fostering a culture of operational excellence within the organization.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Project Leads and team members, supporting their development and promoting knowledge sharing.
  • Identify and mitigate risks by analyzing potential challenges and implementing proactive solutions to minimize impact on project outcomes.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and reports to senior leadership, summarizing progress, risks, and recommendations for decision-making.
  • Ensure adherence to change management models, supporting smooth adoption of new processes and systems across the business.
