About The Position

This role involves repairing, reconditioning, welding, fabricating, servicing, and preparing CAT and other Empire line allied machines and components for delivery. The mechanic will diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions and failures of machines, engines, machine systems, and components, often working in adverse weather and field conditions. The position requires willingness to accept out-of-town assignments with extended overnight stays and to provide on-the-job training to helpers. Effective communication, both orally and in writing, is essential for conveying information about equipment conditions, problems, and recommendations to associates, clients, and management.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated technical skill competence.
  • Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment, including computerized instrumentation.
  • Appropriate manner, conduct, and grooming adhering to company policy.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to obtain CDL.
  • Knowledge of CAT machine components and systems.
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies and use of all required safety equipment.
  • Ability to maintain consistent attendance.
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Minimum of 6 months related experience.
  • Completion of TRAIN test evaluation.
  • Proof of current valid CDL if required by position.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Will be required to wear respirator and be cleared for respirator use by an approved medical provider.
  • May be required to operate a forklift with appropriate certification(s).

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, metallurgical and stress failures.
  • Ask for assistance if diagnosis is not made within four hours.
  • Eliminate or recommend action to eliminate the source of the problem.
  • Prepare inspection and appraisal reports.
  • Comprehend and interpret sketches and diagrams, including engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Plan and control repair jobs.
  • Analyze client requirements and determine the scope of work.
  • Arrange to take necessary parts, tools, welding materials, and technical publications for service trips.
  • Organize job sequence at the job site and arrange for any required sublet or component rework.
  • Direct and coordinate the work of assigned helpers to minimize inefficiencies.
  • Monitor and control job progress.
  • Repair, recondition, weld, fabricate, and maintain equipment and components.
  • Prepare equipment for delivery.
  • Remove and install components and parts.
  • Disassemble and reassemble components.
  • Determine parts reusability according to published guidelines.
  • Order replacements and arrange for repairs.
  • Service and maintain equipment (preventive maintenance), adjust, and test mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Operate welding equipment, performing arc welding, air arc, gas welding, and cutting in various positions.
  • Work safely at all times and adhere to all applicable safety policies.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Learn and use Empire and CAT procedures and systems.
  • Prepare Service Reports.
  • Maintain company equipment.
  • Report repair or replacement needs to the supervisor.
  • Make warranty recommendations to supervision via job closing questionnaire.
  • Maintain good client relations.
  • Assist the client in making repair or replacement decisions.
  • Explain equipment operating difficulties and failures to clients and the necessary corrective actions.
  • Handle all client concerns with tact and diplomacy.
  • Work within and promote corporate values.
