About The Position

Northern Star (Pogo) LLC has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for Engineering Graduates at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotational camp schedule. We are seeking Spring 2026 Graduates to join our Two-Year Graduate Program. The Graduate Mining Engineer reports to the Mine Superintendent and the primary role is to assist the Mine Engineering team with operational and engineering requirements. This includes using site procedures and processes to conduct specific tasks under the direction of Senior Engineers, and includes working in office and / or Underground workplaces.

Requirements

  • Degree majoring in Mining Engineering from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Current Driver's License.
  • Minimum 1-year relevant experience in the mining industry or proof of mine site intern work.
  • Computer literacy Microsoft Office (extensive excel skills is a requirement).
  • Good communication skills.
  • Excellent data analyses skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all engineering tasks.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.

Responsibilities

  • In your first year, you will work underground as an operator on a 28 days on, 14 days off roster - learning all different positions in the mine. In the second year, you will work as an engineer in the surface offices on a 15 days on, 13 days off roster.
  • Create mining instructions for the direction of operational activities including development instructions, drilling designs, blast plans, etc.
  • Conduct post mining reconciliation reviews.
  • Conduct mine area inspections to ensure mine instructions have been executed and quality aspects are in line with expectations.
  • Conduct mine inspections / surveys to record the mine operating environmental conditions and report finding to senior operational personnel (e.g. ventilation surveys, monthly area inspections, etc.)
  • Develop short term mining schedules and present these to the technical and operating team.
  • Participate in daily crew safety meetings
