About The Position

Kleinfelder is seeking an Entry-Level Mining/Civil Design Engineer to join their growing southeast engineering team. The ideal candidates will participate in and contribute to a diverse range of engineering projects and services in a team-oriented environment. Under the direction of experienced engineers, you will gain exposure to Mining, Industrial & Commercial Land Development, and other engineering projects. This position is available in their Raleigh, NC office.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mining engineering, construction engineering, or a related engineering/mining discipline.
0–2 years of experience, including internships, co-ops, or civil/mining engineering experience.
Basic knowledge and experience using AuotCAD is required.
Self-starter who can work independently and with team members.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work as a team player, take direction, and interact well with others.
Basic understanding of Site Grading & Storm Drainage, Erosion and Sediment Control and Storm Water Best Management Practices with strong desire to learn and an interest in mining/civil engineering design.
Basic understanding of civil construction, surveying, earthworks, and engineering drawings.
Strong communication, problem-solving, organizational, and documentation skills.
Ability to work primarily in a office environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Willingness to learn mining operations, construction practices, safety requirements, and applicable engineering standards.

Nice To Haves

Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate preferred.
Proficiency with Civil 3D is preferred.
Familiarity with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Carlson, Microsoft Excel, and other engineering/project software is beneficial.

Responsibilities

Complete mining/civil engineering designs and the generation of construction plans and specifications, technical calculations, exhibits and reports primarily serving mining clients.
Utilize Civil 3D including alignments, profiles and grading features to produce engineered construction plans and sheet set ups.
Utilize Civil 3D, Carlson, etc. to prepare mine plans, geological modeling, reserve estimates, and operational scheduling.
Prepare a variety of Civil 3D Plans, maps, and exhibits.
Prepare regulatory permit drawings, applications, and other submittal requirements.
Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and calculations to support engineering design.
Work in conjunction with mining/civil engineers and project leaders to develop engineering designs.
Follow project schedules and allotted hours by Project manager.
Follow internal and/or client procedures and standards.
Evaluating design alternatives to solve constructability, regulatory, and site challenges.
Performing site visits to perform job scoping and coordinating with survey crews, SUE, Geotech, etc.
Perform other engineering and project-support duties while developing technical knowledge of mining and civil construction operations.
