Provide assistance in transporting special education students. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety of students during transportation, including buckling them into seats, securing wheelchairs, and maintaining order on the bus. The aide also assists students with loading and unloading, handles emergency physical problems, supports the driver in maintaining discipline, and observes student welfare and safety. Cooperation with school administration and staff regarding student behaviors and physical management is essential. The role involves assisting students with handicap-related problems, adhering to school system policies and regulations, maintaining confidentiality, and effective communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators. The position requires attendance at staff development and training sessions and performing other assigned duties. This role is subject to the Students First Act of 2011, and Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill the position by transfer of a qualified internal applicant. No credit toward tenure is earned if hired after September 30 in the initial school year.
