About The Position

This role involves performing all duties associated with the construction of the project that are not specifically assigned to others. The Miner drills holes in rock for the placement of explosives, loads blast holes with explosives, and performs pre-blasting and post-blasting functions. The role also includes preparing the site for mucking, assisting in the mucking cycle, and installing both short-term and permanent roof and rib support.

Requirements

• Operates hand held or machine mounted rock drills.
• Accurately positions, aligns and drills holes following the blast-hole plan.
• Prepares primers and detonators.
• Loads and tamps the correct quantity of explosives in each hole as directed.
• Assists in the completion of the blasting circuit.
• Removes drills, pumps, hoses, hand tools and equipment from the blast area.
• Reposition pumps, hoses and equipment after the blast.
• Adds or removes utilities as directed (Ventilation ducts and devices, Air lines, water lines, communication lines, rail).
• Wets the muck pile to suppress blasting fumes.
• Scales loose material from the roof and ribs using scaling bars.
• Adds, replaces and repairs ventilation devices as necessary.
• Tends hoses, unhooks and hooks muck buckets.
• Relays signals to the Hoist Operator.
• Installs temporary roof jacks as required.
• Uses hand held or machine mounted rock drills to install rock bolts in the roof and ribs.
• Installs timbers, steel sets, steel liner plates, wooden or steel lagging as required.
• Ties rebar, removes and resets concrete forms maintaining correct alignments.
• Places concrete using concrete buckets or concrete pumps.

Responsibilities

• Drills holes in rock for the placement of explosives by operating hand held or machine mounted rock drills, accurately positioning, aligning and drilling holes following the blast-hole plan.
• Loads blast holes with explosives, prepares primers and detonators, loads and tamps the correct quantity of explosives in each hole as directed, and assists in the completion of the blasting circuit.
• Performs pre-blasting and post-blasting functions, including removing and repositioning drills, pumps, hoses, hand tools and equipment from the blast area, and adding or removing utilities such as ventilation ducts and devices, air lines, water lines, communication lines, and rail.
• Prepares the site for mucking by wetting the muck pile to suppress blasting fumes, scaling loose material from the roof and ribs using scaling bars, and adding, replacing, and repairing ventilation devices as necessary.
• Assists as needed in the mucking cycle by tending hoses, unhooking and hooking muck buckets, and relaying signals to the Hoist Operator.
• Installs short term roof and rib support as required, including temporary roof jacks and using rock drills to install rock bolts in the roof and ribs.
• Installs permanent roof and rib support, including timbers, steel sets, steel liner plates, wooden or steel lagging, tying rebar, removing and resetting concrete forms maintaining correct alignments, and placing concrete using concrete buckets or concrete pumps.
• Generally performs all duties associated with the construction of the project that are not specifically assigned to others.
