About The Position

This role is for a Mine Specialist focusing on Railroad/Coal Barn Electrician/Mechanic duties. The position involves inspecting, repairing, and maintaining various mechanical and electrical equipment within a mine operation. Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or GED equivalent
  • 5 years of heavy equipment mechanical experience (diesel engines, hydraulic systems, conveyor maintenance, welding / fitting, rigging/lifting) highly preferred.
  • Railroad mechanic experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math, reading, and writing skills required.
  • Computer experience preferred.
  • Previous MSHA experience preferred.
  • Work is of a physical nature and performed in and outdoor environment in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to work a rotating shift of up to 12 hours.
  • MSHA Electrical Qualification – Required for Electrician Position.
  • Non-MSHA Qualified electricians will be considered for Apprentice Position.
  • Must have verifiable electrical experience to be considered for Apprentice Position.
  • Must have the ability to interpret blue prints and schematics.
  • Must have the ability to work from heights up to 300 ft.
  • Must have the ability to work in confined spaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with less experience will be considered for Apprentice positions assisting the Mine Spec II with the duties above. If hired, Apprentice will be expected to build knowledge, skills, and experience required to fulfill the Mine Spec II role.

Responsibilities

  • Safely inspect, repair, and maintain all types of mechanical equipment and facilities including coal crushers, coal conveyors, locomotives, railroad switches, rail repairs, and draglines.
  • Perform painting / carpentry / construction work; operate large motorized equipment, mobile cranes, forklifts and trucks.
  • Recognize inefficiencies / waste in mine operation and problem solve to eliminate it.
  • Understand basic AC/DC Circuit Theory, Digital and Analog Circuit Theory.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot electrical power distributions systems up to 138KV.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot electrical equipment on large earth-moving equipment and heavy equipment in lignite surface mining and reclamation activities.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot facility and building electrical equipment including air conditioning systems.
  • Inspect, test, repair, and install electrical equipment such as leads, buses, breakers, batteries, AC & DC motors and generators, lighting, cranes, electrical switches.
  • Perform MSHA electrical inspections and identify hazards.
  • Properly conduct low, medium, and high voltage switching, clearing and grounding activities for all mine auxiliary equipment, including donning proper arc flash gear.
  • Safely operate heavy equipment and machinery to move Power cable in mining areas including pits, spoils, pre-strip and reclamation areas.
  • Work near large earth moving equipment such as dozers, draglines, loaders, and haulers. Terrain may be rough, wet, dusty and steep.
  • Coordinate and lead work efforts in conjunction with crew members as well as other work groups in the mine.
  • Recognize inefficiencies, safety hazards and waste in mine operation and have general problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Build cable and raceway systems and bend and install conduit.
  • Pull and route control and power cables through raceways, cable trays and conduits.
  • Terminate cables and check for continuity and accuracy.
  • Perform some welding and other mechanical functions.
