JDS Energy & Mining•Challis, ID

About The Position

The Mine Planning Engineer designs, schedules, and optimizes mining sequences to support safe, sustainable, and profitable mineral extraction. The role connects long-term life-of-mine goals with daily pit or underground operations, using spatial modeling and scheduling software to balance ore quality, equipment utilization, and waste management. The position is located in Challis, Idaho, United States, on a 2x2 rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize detailed pit phases, pushbacks, stopes, haul roads, waste dumps, and stockpile layouts using specialized industry software.
  • Prepare rolling short- to medium-term mine plans and production schedules, from weekly targets to 24-month forecasts, to meet extraction and processing goals.
  • Track, analyze, and report actual daily production against the mine plan; identify deviations, analyze root causes, and implement corrective action plans.
  • Coordinate with Geology, Geotechnical, Survey, and Daily Operations to incorporate physical constraints, regulatory conditions, and safety measures into executable mine plans.
  • Run evaluation scenarios to maximize resource recovery, support appropriate ore blending, minimize haulage cycle times, and lower cost-per-tonne metrics.
