About The Position

The Manager, Mechanical Maintenance is responsible for leading all mechanical maintenance activities to ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of mining and processing equipment across Nevada Projects. This role oversees maintenance strategy, workforce leadership, budgeting, reliability programs, and contractor management to maximize equipment availability, optimize asset lifecycle costs, and minimize unscheduled downtime. As a key member of the site operational leadership team, the Manager, Mechanical Maintenance partners closely with Operations, Reliability Engineering, EPCM contractors, and Project teams to integrate maintainability into project designs, support plant commissioning, and foster a strong culture of safety and operational discipline.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline required.
  • Minimum 5 to 7+ years of progressive mechanical and reliability maintenance experience within mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial operations.
  • Proven track record supporting project studies, EPCM execution, plant commissioning, and ramp-up phases.
  • In-depth expertise in asset management systems (CMMS), Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Strong practical knowledge of predictive maintenance technologies, including vibration monitoring, oil analysis, and thermography.
  • Demonstrated success in developing operational budgets, managing contractor scope, and optimizing spare parts inventories.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to lead autonomously, mentor teams, and maintain a collaborative work culture.
  • Strong safety leadership presence with comprehensive knowledge of MSHA surface and processing compliance requirements.
  • Cultural and community awareness relevant to mine development and operations, aligned with AngloGold Ashanti values.
  • Valid driver's license required with the ability to operate company vehicles safely.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding business performance data, capital plans, production metrics, and cost structures.

  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or equivalent designation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive preventative and predictive maintenance programs across mining and processing facilities.
  • Oversee the maintenance planning, scheduling, and work management execution processes to maximize operational efficiency and equipment uptime.
  • Ensure maintainability and long-term reliability standards are integrated into capital projects and EPCM design phases.
  • Collaborate with Reliability Engineering teams to lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and failure mode evaluations.
  • Support and advance condition monitoring programs, including vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, and non-destructive testing.
  • Develop and manage the annual operating and sustaining capital budgets for mechanical maintenance.
  • Control contractor costs, optimize spare parts inventory levels, and drive continuous improvement in maintenance expenditure.
  • Support the commissioning, ramp-up, and start-up of new mechanical systems, processing facilities, and infrastructure.
  • Partner with EPCM contractors and project teams during studies, execution, and handover to ensure seamless operational transition.
  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure strict compliance with MSHA, site safety, and environmental standards.
  • Lead hazard identification, workplace examinations, and incident prevention initiatives within the maintenance department.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing maintenance team, fostering a positive work environment and promoting personal accountability.
  • Provide constructive feedback, perform activities with autonomous discipline within agreed operational boundaries, and support technical skill development.
