About The Position

Under the supervision of the Lab Supervisor and/or Chemist, the Mine Engineering Technician position will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and implementing daily mine surveying activities. This role involves collecting blast hole samples from the mine, preparing the samples through crushing and pulverizing, and ensuring that high-quality, representative samples are delivered for chemical and metallurgical analysis.

Requirements

  • Good working knowledge of modern safety systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school and/or associate degree preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of mining processes is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation and techniques is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with common sample preparation techniques is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blast hole samples from designated locations in the mine following established safety and quality protocols.
  • Label, document, and transport samples to the preparation facility.
  • Ensure sampling methods maintain representativity and minimize contamination.
  • Crush, split, and pulverize samples to the required particle size specifications for laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain and operate sample preparation equipment (crushers, pulverizers, splitters, and dust control systems).
  • Perform routine equipment inspections, cleaning, and minor maintenance to ensure reliability and accuracy.
  • Assist in data entry and logging of sample preparation activities.
  • Work closely with Mine Engineers, Geologists, and Laboratory staff to support ore control and grade reconciliation.
  • Independently plan and perform analytical work.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Monitor inventory and ensure adequate supplies of reagents and materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to chemical hygiene practices.
  • Provide technical support to the staff and other departments as needed.
  • Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.
  • Assist Lab Technicians with sample preparation as needed.
