About The Position

Freeport-McMoRan is offering internship opportunities for students and recent graduates to gain skills and experience in a collaborative environment. This program is designed for full-time students enrolled in accredited four-year universities and recent graduates in North America. The internships are temporary, full-time, paid positions typically running from May through August. This position may be eligible for immigration work visa sponsorship for foreign nationals on F-1 or other full-time statuses, based on business needs, performance, and site approval.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year university pursuing a degree, bachelor’s or higher, in an appropriate Mining Engineering discipline or related Engineering field; OR Recent graduate (having graduated within 12 months prior to internship start date) with a degree, bachelor’s or higher, in Mining Engineering or related Engineering field.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Possesses strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly accurate and detail-oriented.
  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative, organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand, apply and communicate verbal and written work and safety-related instructions, procedures, job assignments and applicable safety standards in English.
  • Must be able to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear, and see.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the workday.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with a variety of conventional to complex engineering projects to support operations.
  • Assist in layout and design, specification development and preparation, new product evaluation and data collection.
  • Coordinate mining, mechanical, civil and other engineering projects, including developing a scope of work, generating cost estimates, and preparing project information packages.
  • Evaluate current systems and processes and implement optimizations to improve efficiencies.
  • Undertake project work including project development, budgeting, engineering, purchasing, construction, cost control, quality control, and implementation.
  • Develop engineering projects utilizing new technology to upgrade and improve safety efficiencies, cost controls, and environmental protection.
  • Promote and initiate positive employee relations to facilitate teamwork and job satisfaction.
  • Participate with operating and maintenance departments in problem-solving efforts to improve safety, efficiencies, cost controls, and environmental protection.
  • Assist operating and maintenance departments in the implementation of new technology.
  • May be assigned to Long Range Planning, Short Range Planning, Ore Control, Surveying, Technical Support, or Geology.
  • Perform other duties as required.
