About The Position

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Mine Engineer and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering is required.
Nine (9) years of mining, geotechnical or civil engineering experience is required.
Must be 18 years of age.
Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).

Nice To Haves

Working knowledge of mine surveying using laser and other electronic processes is desired.
Experience with using Carlson Mining or Civil 3D Software.
Previous Nuclear Industry experience is preferred.
Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
Supervisor experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

Lead and support core underground mining engineering activities, including design, development, and operational planning.
Collaborate with survey engineering technicians to conduct surface and underground field surveys, process survey data, and generate precise engineering drawings.
Train and qualify as a Cognizant Engineer across designated systems.
Actively facilitate daily operational interfaces and drive the execution of mining activities.
Evaluate methods and procedures to maximize cost-efficiency.
Identify opportunities to integrate modern technological advancements.
Partner with project engineers and management to establish technical requirements and achieve project objectives.
