The Millwright is responsible for installing, assembling, and, when necessary, dismantling machinery, conveyor systems, pulleys, mechanical clutches, gear boxes, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems. The Millwright will transport and locate machines and equipment to the desired location according to floor plans, or as directed using fork lifts, hoists, winches, cranes and other equipment. They will assemble machines or equipment from their component parts. The Millwright must understand how a machine functions to assemble and disassemble it properly, which may involve knowledge of electronics, pneumatics, and computer systems. The role requires using complex instruction books that detail the assembly of machinery and utilizing tools such as levels, welding machines, hydraulic torque wrenches, micrometers, and other precision measuring devices to achieve extreme tolerances. On large projects, the use of cranes is common. Work requires practical skill and knowledge and journey-level skill as a millwright. The candidate must be able to perform incidental tasks as required to complete the larger task.
