About The Position

The Millwright position involves safely and efficiently performing machine labor for equipment and machinery common to maritime vessels and/or general industry, including but not limited to pumps, valves, winches, and gearboxes. The role requires an aggressive work ethic with a focus on production. Essential functions include the ability to apply basic machine shop math, demonstrate layout proficiency, and disassemble various types of equipment and machinery. The Millwright will be proficient at setting up and operating drill presses, and performing overhaul, maintenance, and testing of pumps, valves, turbines, condensers, shafts, rudders, and winches. This role also involves setting up and operating portable machining tools, and ensuring proper care for and safe use of hand and power tools. All other duties will be assigned based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • Experience with troubleshooting and repairing various mechanical equipment, including ANSI pumps, various types of compressors, blowers, fans, gearboxes, and mixers.
  • Experience installing below-deck auxiliaries, such as evaporators, heaters, pumps, condensers, and connecting them to the proper equipment.
  • Experience in the removal, repair, and modification or overhaul of various types of marine shipboard equipment and systems such as valves, pumps, hydraulics, turbines, reduction gears, generators, anchor windlass and steering gears.
  • Experience reading and understanding blueprints, sketches, and templates.
  • Experience with manual and semi-automatic welding procedures.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and regulations.
  • Safe use of all tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and with teams.
  • All types of physical movement are required for this position to successfully perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to use upper and lower extremities.
  • Ability to work outside in heat, inclement weather, and cold.
  • Ability to crawl, kneel, crouch, climb, and bend around and under equipment, on ladders up to 24' at heights up to 70', stairs, scaffolds, through small accesses, enter inside of tanks, and confined spaces, through hatches, and manholes throughout much of the work shift.
  • Occasionally lift/move up to 75 pounds.
  • Able to work over bodies of water.
  • Normal level of visual acuity needed.
  • Must be able to understand and follow directions.
  • Normal hearing level needed.
  • Hand-eye coordination required.
