About The Position

SF Metalworks is a growing architectural metal fabrication company seeking an experienced Millwright / Facilities Technician to maintain their shop operations and assist with future build-outs. This is a hands-on role involving the installation, alignment, maintenance, and repair of industrial machinery and heavy equipment, as well as facility improvements and utility management. The ideal candidate will be a problem-solver who enjoys variety and can work independently to ensure the shop runs safely and effectively.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of millwright, industrial maintenance, or heavy equipment installation experience in a manufacturing, metalworking, or fabrication environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency in welding, cutting, and basic machining.
  • Experience with precision alignment and rigging.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • General construction skills, including framing, basic electrical, and basic plumbing.
  • Forklift and overhead crane certification, or ability to obtain.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Millwright apprenticeship or technical training.
  • Journeyman Millwright certification.
  • Experience with three-phase power, motor controls, or VFDs.
  • Experience maintaining CNC equipment.
  • Solar PV or battery storage installation experience.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Rigging certification.
  • Own hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Install, align, level, dismantle, and reassemble industrial machinery and heavy equipment.
  • Maintain and improve preventive maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
  • Safely rig, move, and position machinery using cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other equipment.
  • Use precision measuring tools to verify alignment and tolerances.
  • Fabricate, weld, and machine replacement parts, guards, fixtures, and brackets as needed.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and work orders.
  • Build and improve shop infrastructure, including walls, partitions, benches, racking, platforms, equipment pads, and work areas.
  • Perform general building repairs and upkeep.
  • Install and maintain compressed air lines and machine connections.
  • Perform basic plumbing and electrical work supporting equipment and facility needs.
  • Coordinate with licensed contractors and inspectors when required.
  • Support installation and commissioning of the shop's solar and battery storage systems.
  • Assist the fabrication team during heavy production periods.
  • Support receiving, material handling, and shop organization.
  • Monitor machining or finishing equipment while in operation.
  • Pick up or deliver parts, materials, and equipment when needed.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and help wherever the operation needs support.
