About The Position

Project Engineers work as part of the Production Engineering team to take projects from the Design and Fabrication Engineering team and prepare all programs, BOM’s and collateral needed for Mill and Bench hand-offs.

Nice To Haves

  • A professional degree in Industrial Design, Engineering, Architecture, (or a related field) or relevant vocational training and certification.
  • 5+ years of experience in Architectural Fabrication or a related industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of Rhino 3D.
  • Experience using Grasshopper or Rhinoscript for parametric modeling and automation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Exceptional knowledge of digital fabrication and construction methods.
  • Experience generating or reviewing detailed shop drawings.
  • A high degree of self-motivation, flexibility, and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to work independently and perform multiple tasks under minimal supervision.
  • Experience programming in Mastercam for 3 and 5 axis machining a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Using the approved fabrication engineering drawings and models develop all necessary collateral to hand off all phases of the project to the mill, including CNC Geometry, Cut lists, Ardis Programs, Material Take-off’s, Parts Lists, Applicable Shop Drawings and Rhino models. Organization of all hand-off packages and maintenance of all related files with the Production Engineering File Structure.
  • Working with the Mill Manager and the Production Manager develop all ancillary fixturing needed for the machining of complex parts or assemblies on the CNC’s. Understand CNC machine constraints and strategies and incorporate these into fixture designs. Design and develop models and drawings for all required CNC fixtures. Develop 3 Axis and 5 Axis Mastercam programs for CNC machining using CWKA machining standards developed by the team. As necessary peer review Mastercam programs developed by other production engineers. Check with the mill routinely to understand the efficiency of programs being run to make adjustments that will improve the efficiency or speed that work can be completed.
  • Working with the project’s Fabrication Engineer, Project Coordinator and as needed the Production Manager and Shop personnel resolve any outstanding build strategies not completed or finalized during Fabrication Engineering. Review submittal drawings and determine outstanding fabrication details that may need to be developed for outside vendors or our internal shop team. Review all materials specified and sourced for the job by the Project Coordinator to understand how these materials are intended to be used for fabrication and make any adjustments needed based on material specifications or limitations. Work with the Project Coordinator and develop all Shop Hand-off drawings and models needed for the Shop Work Orders. Check with the bench routinely to understand the efficiency of fabrication strategies being used to make adjustments that will improve the efficiency or speed that work can be completed.
  • Produce Engineering documents and submittal drawings to support the Fabrication Engineering Team. On occasion projects will require that the Production Engineer’s produce Fabrication Engineering collateral to support drawing submittal deadlines. Work with the Lead Design Engineer to support the development of submittal drawings and models using Rhino.
