About The Position

This role involves operating a variety of semi-automatic milling machines to perform semi-complex machining operations on diverse materials. The operator will work with available methods and control tapes, following instructions, drawings, and operation sheets. The position requires inputting operations data, recommending tape changes, and performing setups for rough and finish machining using standard tools and fixtures. Adjustments to machines and tooling will be necessary to maintain quality, and manual control of feed and speed rates may be required. The operator will perform various milling, drilling, boring, threading, undercutting, tapping, and reaming operations. Occasional training of other employees and performing similar duties on conventional milling machines are also part of the role. Maintaining quality standards through visual checks and basic measuring instruments, recording data, and performing deburring, polishing, and part marking are essential. The operator will also address ordinary difficulties within standard practices, perform rework, and refer complex issues to supervision. Compliance with EH&S procedures, waste segregation, and good housekeeping are required. This position is for the Second Shift.

Requirements

  • Ability to use shop mathematics, tables, and handbook formulas.
  • Ability to work from complicated drawings.
  • Ability to use a variety of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier height gage, calipers, bevel protractor, dial indicators, etc.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of milling methods, machine shop practice, tools, and cutting qualities of various metals.
  • Equivalent to 2 years high school plus 2 to 3 years trades training.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience.

  • Limited use of advanced shop mathematics may occasionally be required.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate a variety of semi-automatic milling machines to perform semi-complex machining operations.
  • Input operations data into the control panel.
  • Perform set up and operation of established machining operations using available tapes.
  • Use standard and prescribed tools, fixtures, holding devices, and other attachments for rough and finish machining.
  • Adapt ordinary holding devices and attachments to individual job requirements.
  • Make necessary machine and tooling adjustments to maintain proper depth, width, and location.
  • Manually control feed and speed rates when necessary.
  • Plan, layout, set up, and perform standard milling, drilling, boring, threading, undercutting, tapping, and reaming operations.
  • Occasionally break-in other employees.
  • Perform similar or related duties on conventional and semi-automatic milling machines.
  • Maintain quality standards by checking work visually and with basic measuring instruments; record data manually or electronically.
  • Perform other related work of a comparable or lower skill level, including deburring, polishing, and part marking.
  • Remedy ordinary difficulties within standard practices and perform rework as required.
  • Refer tape errors and non-standard problem conditions to working leader or supervision.
  • Perform operator checklist and comply with all EH&S procedures.
  • Segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices.
