About The Position

As a Mill Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining the entire milling operation process, including the wheat elevator, wheat bins, blending operation, and the entry of finished products and co-products into flour/feed trucks and cars. To succeed, you must be able to deliver results in first-time situations by inspiring others and working to earn trust every day. You will be expected to organize, prioritize, and own multiple tasks while meeting or exceeding deadlines, and to learn and apply new technology and share your knowledge with others. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an industrial environment (milling, agricultural, food production, or equivalent)
  • Advanced skill with computer applications, to include Microsoft Office Suite, Control Systems or other Production Operation technology with the ability to quickly learn and use new technology
  • Demonstrated mechanical understanding and intermediate troubleshooting ability
  • Demonstrated Safety and/or Food Safety & Quality Champion Behaviors
  • Must be able to read, interpret instruction and technology and communicate effectively in English
  • Must have willingness for continued education, training and development in Milling Practices and Programs (to include other department operations)
  • Must be willing to work alongside your team including long days, on rotating or varying shifts (days, evenings, and nights) as well as overtime, weekend or holiday work.
  • Team members must be clean shaven in order to perform tasks where respiratory protection is required and the use of a respirator (including N-95 dust mask) requires a proper seal for adequate protection.

  • Mill Production experience
  • Continued Education to include; Associates Degree, Technical or Trade certifications, IAOM Milling Coursework, Training and Education specific to Milling or Grain Sciences

Responsibilities

  • Perform all tasks in a safe and responsible manner, engaging in safety training and proactive safety behavior.
  • Help maintain, update, and enforce procedures for the plant, ensuring that yourself and others are always choosing to execute work with safety and food safety at the forefront of all decisions and actions.
  • Responsible for establishment and adherence to Food Quality and Safety policies in procedures in collaboration with the Quality group.
  • Perform quality checks and laboratory equipment testing on products as required.
  • Produce flour and wheat co-products to be safely delivered within spec to the customer and end consumer, including the safe operations of two highly automated, state-of-the-art milling units producing both Hard and Soft Wheat products.
  • Maintain and operate the wheat and flour blending processes to meet customer and internal specifications.
  • Interpret production and operations data on technology and equipment, making decisions to adjust automatic functions, troubleshoot alarms, adjust equipment, and monitor results.
  • Leverage information to analyze and make decisions to drive and maximize operational efficiencies and yield.
  • Work on automated milling equipment, control systems, and related computer systems that monitor mill and elevator operation.
  • Assist other departments as needed.
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks and troubleshooting during regular operations, downtime, and scheduled maintenance on the mill.
  • Assist in project work as needed.
  • Maintain all tools/equipment and execute processes in the 5S, Pristine AMPS standards using process tools such as Centerline, 5S, understanding loss through 5why to create continuous improvement processes by determining Root Cause and Corrective Actions.
  • Drive effective communication and documentation in support of daily operations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure scheduling of activity and coordination of work.
  • Work with varying technologies and computer applications.
  • Maintain sanitation standards in accordance with policies to provide for a safe and food-safe work environment.
