About The Position

The mill stocker is responsible for the review, retrieval and documentation of all steel coils introduced into the mill Production area used in the manufacturing of tubing. This role requires shift flexibility due to Union bumping rights, with shift premiums offered for 2nd and 3rd shifts.

Requirements

  • Less than high school education; at least 10th grade education or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Fork lift and Overhead Crane Certification.
  • Ability to use main frame computer to check inventory.
  • Shift flexibility is required due to Union bumping rights.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve mill stocker and quantity sheets, and review shop orders with Mill Operator(s) for material verification (round size, gauge, material type, master material number, and quantity) to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
  • Go to the "coil storage area" to check for availability of needed material and quantity, calculate estimated coils and weight, and verify coil master material number against the shop order master material.
  • Use a forklift to move coils to the mill coil dump area.
  • Place coils on the dump stand according to the predetermined process and document the coil numbers staged at the mill on the mill stocker sheet.
  • Retag and prepare any partial coils for restock upon completion of an order.
  • Compile the mill stocker sheet and give it to the shift supervisor at the end of the shift.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
