About The Position

The Second Shift Cooler Supervisor is responsible for all cooler operations and product flow including loading, receiving, palletizing, put-away, storage, staging and inventory management. This position oversees the peak DSD route loading window when the cooler is at its busiest and issues must be resolved in real time. Areas of responsibility include the finished goods cooler, shipping/receiving docks, refrigerated raw ingredient storage and the empty case dock. The Second Shift Supervisor ensures that the right product, in the right package, is staged in the cooler and loaded on time for DSD routes, depot transfers and commercial customer shipments.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
5+ years of cold storage, cold chain inventory control, palletizing, loading and production experience.
Working knowledge of SAP, including inventory management, goods movements, shipping/goods issue, purchasing and reporting transactions.
Familiarity with food safety systems including GMPs, FSMA and SQF.
Knowledge of warehouse and dock safety requirements.
Ability to lead an hourly workforce, including union-represented and temporary contract employees.
Knowledge of loading, casing, palletizing and stretch wrap requirements, trailer load configuration and weight distribution.
Strong problem-solving skills; ability to quickly diagnose and resolve product, order, equipment and scheduling issues in real time.
Ability and desire to work constructively in a collaborative environment.
Capable of working in cold and wet conditions for extended periods with frequent standing, walking, bending and climbing with the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

Ensure all orders in SAP are picked, staged and loaded accurately and on schedule.
Supervise pickers in building orders; verify pick accuracy and completeness prior to loading; ensure product is picked so that code dates meet shelf-life and freshness requirements.
Enforce FEFO (first-expired, first-out) rotation on all items; monitor code dates and remove short-dated or out-of-code product.
Coordinate with Distribution, Sales and Customer Service to resolve problems and to fulfill exception orders.
During peak periods, work with Production to set the sequence in which products and package sizes are run so that product arrives in the order the loading schedule requires and cooler space is not consumed by product that does not ship until later.
Manage DSD route load times, transport departures and third-party appointments; confirm that each product is produced and available ahead of its loading window.
Coordinate with Production and QA on product shortages, overruns, and short-dated product. Communicate package quality, leakers and coding problems as soon as possible. Manage product holds, releases and rework items.
Ensure trailers are inspected before loading for cleanliness, odor, damage, door seals and rejected if unsuitable. Verify that every trailer is precooled with the correct reefer setting.
Verify bills of lading, load sheets and shipping documents. For commercial shipments, record reefer setting, trailer temperature, case and pallet counts, and seal numbers. Ensure that temperature monitoring devices are correctly positioned and recording.
Apply correct trailer loading configurations for palletized shipments so that every load is balanced, secure and within legal axle weights.
Oversee the empty case dock where returning trailers unload empty milk cases, returned product and pallets.
Ensure withdrawn product is properly emptied, with liquid directed to the python and packaging materials handled according to company requirements.
Manage the flow of empty cases onto the wash conveyor.
Ensure cooler inventory accuracy in SAP; maintain real-time accuracy so all receipts, transfers, picks, shipments, returns and adjustments are posted correctly and on time.
Maintain the company's ongoing cycle count program so that every SKU and location is counted on a defined, recurring schedule.
Investigate and reconcile count variances, document root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Execute product withdrawals from the cooler in coordination with QA. Locate and segregate affected lots, place holds in SAP and prevent shipment of held product.
Forecast, order, receive and manage inventory of purchased-for-resale items.
Maintain appropriate stock levels to meet route and customer demand while minimizing excess inventory and out-of-code losses.
Manage receiving of refrigerated and frozen raw ingredients. Coordinate with the Dry Goods Warehouse for proper receiving, storage and transfer.
Inspect each inbound load before acceptance: verify product temperature on arrival, trailer condition and cleanliness, seal integrity, lot/code dates, supplier documentation and quantity against the purchase order.
Post goods receipts in SAP accurately and on time.
Enforce FEFO rotation, lot identification and code-date monitoring on ingredients; include ingredient locations in the cycle count program and remove out-of-code or damaged ingredients in coordination with QA and Procurement.
Stage and issue ingredients to Production as needed and record transfers in SAP so raw material inventory and lot traceability remain accurate.
Coordinate with Maintenance to keep the cooler at the required temperature at all times; monitor temperature logs, alarms and trends.
Escalate refrigeration issues immediately and execute contingency plans to protect product during equipment failures or power interruptions.
Supervise union-represented and temporary contract cooler warehouse employees.
Maintain a working knowledge of the company's collective bargaining agreement and administer daily operations consistent with company objectives and contract requirements, including job classifications, seniority, overtime rules and shift provisions.
Ensure labor utilization aligns with staffing requirements, overtime rules, and shift schedules; monitor productivity and material flow to optimize labor efficiency.
Maintain warehouse safety and security programs to ensure a safe working environment according to company policies.
Maintain compliance with all company food safety requirements. Follow food safety plans as they apply to storage and shipping.
