About The Position

This position is contingent upon successful contract award. Prevailance Inc. is seeking an experienced, mission-focused Military Working Dog (MWD) Trainer to join our team to support the 341st Training Squadron at Lackland Air Force Base. The position is anticipated to begin by end of year, and we are currently accepting applications from qualified candidates to prepare for program launch. The MWD Trainer will provide expertise in training Military Working Dogs in accordance with standing 341st Training Squadron requirements. This role requires specialized experience outlined in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for the GS-1712 Training Instruction series.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of experience in Military Working Dog programs as a military officer or senior NCO
  • Completion of at least one (1) tour at the MWDC at JBSA-Lackland AFB
  • Strong administrative skills to maintain accurate MWD training and progress records
  • Knowledge of canine health requirements and safety protocols
  • Expertise in: Developing and executing training programs for patrol, explosive, and drug detection canines
  • Scenario-based training and evaluation of canine teams
  • Analyzing and addressing training deficiencies
  • Producing comprehensive training and evaluation reports
  • Graduate of the MWD Handler Course of Instruction
  • Graduate of the Trainer / Kennel Master Course of Instruction
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience evaluating potential canines for procurement by the 341st Training Squadron
  • Familiarity with curriculum development through NETC or CENSECFOR
  • Higher staff experience at TYCOM, numbered fleets, CNIC, or NECC, with exposure to program policy and doctrine development

Responsibilities

  • Train potential explosive/drug detection and patrol dogs at the Military Working Dog Center (MWDC)
  • Conduct training in diverse environments, including buildings, warehouses, vehicles, vessels, aircraft, and luggage
  • Perform on/off-leash obedience training and controlled aggression exercises
  • Handle and train MWDs specializing in narcotics detection, explosive detection, and patrol aggression duties
  • Train while wearing personal protective equipment, including bite suits, sleeves, boots, and gloves
  • Maintain detailed training records and track MWD progress through identified coursework
  • Conduct research on working dog training techniques and military references to refine training programs
  • Evaluate canine behavioral attributes, environmental factors, and training program deficiencies
  • Develop scenario-based training exercises and prepare detailed reports documenting evaluations and re-evaluations
  • Assist in special projects such as social demonstrations and public displays associated with MWD programs
  • Ensure canine health, safety, and well-being, including veterinary visits and proper documentation
  • Provide recommendations to management for improving training programs
