About The Position

Highly skilled electrical installation and maintenance work for the Vermont Military Department involving the design, installation and maintenance of routine and complex electrical work, and oversight of contracted work. Work is performed under the direction of a Facility Supervisor or District Facilities Manager.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in electrical installation and repair work.
  • Considerable knowledge of safety procedures used in construction and maintenance activities.
  • Considerable knowledge in the use of computers, email, internet and maintenance related programs.
  • Skill at or above the master level in the use and care of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics of significant complexity.
  • Ability to follow and communicate complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to plan, lay out, assign, and oversee the work of apprentices and other mechanics.
  • Ability to estimate material needs and devise cost effective solutions to repair problems.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain basic project reports and records.
  • Considerable knowledge of state and local electrical codes.
  • High School diploma or equivalent AND must possess a current valid State of Vermont Master Electrician License.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, lift weights up to 75 pounds, and work in cramped, wet, or poorly ventilated areas.
  • Electrical repairs may entail exposure to live electrical parts, for which protective clothing must be worn.
  • May require emergency response to calls outside of regular work hours.
  • Position requires possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Incumbents of this job are issued a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC), which is issued only upon passing a federal background check (Tier 1) including a fingerprint-supported criminal record check.
  • Candidates must obtain the CAC for successful completion of original probation.
  • Possession of the CAC is a condition of employment.

  • Obtains the necessary permits and works with the Division of Fire Safety Inspectors to ensure code compliant installations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and complex electrical installation and repair work on all electrical systems and fire alarm systems in their assigned buildings.
  • Supervises all electrical work performed within their assigned area.
  • Reviews electrical equipment specifications and provides recommendations to Military Department Project Managers.
  • Orders and maintains electrical supply stock.
  • May perform other construction and maintenance duties upon request.
  • Performs related duties as required.
