About The Position

Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) provide first-line defense for Service Members’ mental health, offering flexible, on-call counseling services without the burden of insurance or paperwork. Leidos seeks licensed mental healthcare providers for a PRN-type schedule, supporting military installations and communities to enhance mental well-being. MFLCs offer solution-focused, preventative counseling for issues before they escalate. Counselors may support adults or minors in various settings, including embedded with military units, supporting families, or within schools. Assignments can include adult counseling for Service Members and family members, focusing on operational readiness and resiliency, or Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) counseling for children, youth, parents, and staff in settings like Child Development Centers and Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in the Behavioral Health Professions (MS/MSW/MA/PhD).
  • Valid independent license in the mental health field from any US state or territory (LCSW, MFT, LPCC, Psychologist).
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to pass a basic background check for employment, a Child National Agency Check, and Inquiries (NACI/CNACI) clearance, commonly called a Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide face-to-face counseling to military service members and their families (individual, couples, family, and children).
  • Recommend appropriate referrals and handoffs based on experienced differential clinical skills to military and community resources.
  • Offer presentations to address social skills development and social emotional learning.
  • Build rapport with service members, spouses, and children by attending installation and community events.
  • Help families and children with challenges particular to the military community, such as transitions, moves, separations, and deployments.
