Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLC) provide assessment, short-term, solution-focused counseling services, and non-traditional walk-around participant outreach to eligible individuals, military children, and youth of all ages. This includes collaboration and consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators to strengthen and increase the child’s/youth’s capacity for healthy development. MFLC services aim to enhance participants’ ability to cope with the many challenges associated with the complex dynamics unique to the military service environment. The CYB-MFLC would also serve to provide services for staff and parents. The role requires in-depth knowledge of the MFLC program's conduct, activities, practices, and operations. It involves providing non-medical counseling, consulting, and outreach services, with knowledge of preventative models that strengthen service members’ and their families’ readiness and resilience by reducing the stresses of military life. The counselor will model evidence-based intervention approaches, teach coping strategies, emotion management, and problem-solving skills, and support the management of life challenges. Facilitation of psychological and behavioral awareness is key, as is providing education on symptoms, causes, and implications of identified issues. Services are delivered through multi-level intervention (classroom, family, school, community), considering contextual and cultural factors impacting young children’s behavior. The role assists educators with strategies for understanding factors shaping young children’s social-emotional development. The counselor will perform accurate assessments of presenting problems and plan effective treatment, conduct government-approved presentations, and enter daily activity reporting while maintaining confidentiality.
