About The Position

This position is for a Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) focused on school-based services for children of military service members. The role involves providing non-medical counseling, training, and consultation to children, families, school personnel, and installation command. The counselor will be assigned to Department of Defense (DoD) schools, community schools, youth programs, and summer camps. The primary goal is to support the behavioral health of children and youth within military families, ensuring services are accessible and meet the needs of the installation and schools. The position requires adherence to specific protocols, including line-of-sight, duty to warn, and restricted reporting. The counselor will collaborate with installation Points of Contact (POC) and report to a Regional Supervisor/Director. Flexibility in scheduling is expected to respond to urgent requests. Participation in training, quality improvement initiatives, and other contract activities is also required.

Requirements

  • Licensed at the independent level as a Social Worker (LCSW), Therapist (LMFT), or Mental Health Counselor (LPC/LCMHC).
  • Experience working in a school setting.
  • Must be local to Camp Lejeune, NC, or willing to relocate.
  • Ability to adhere to line of sight protocol.
  • Ability to manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to DoD protocol.
  • Ability to flex schedule to respond to urgent requests.

Responsibilities

  • Provides non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling directly to eligible children and youth of service members.
  • Conducts assessments, brief counseling, consultation, action planning, referral to resources, and follow-up.
  • Supports staff and personnel of DoDEA, community schools, and summer camps.
  • Provides parent training and guidance.
  • Delivers training and health and wellness presentations.
  • Participates in health fairs and other base/installation activities focused on children and youth.
  • Enters counselor activity data daily through a smartphone or web application, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with community resources focused on children and youth.
  • Ensures visibility within the school to make MFLC services accessible.
  • Abides by line-of-sight protocol at all times.
  • Partners with POC to provide CYB services that address installation/facility needs.
  • Develops an effective and professional working relationship with the installation/facility POC.
  • Manages duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to DoD protocol and staffs cases with Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
  • Communicates with Regional Supervisor and participates in regular individual and group supervision.
  • Responds to critical incidents and special requests as directed.
  • Flexes schedule to respond to urgent requests as needed.
  • Participates in regular in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees, initiatives, studies, pilot programs, and other contract activities.
  • Completes activity documentation, integrates pilot activities into counseling work, and utilizes applicable technology.
