About The Position

As the Milieu Supervisor, you will work with your team to provide a holistic, humanizing, and empowering learning environment for students. The Milieu Supervisor provides leadership to teams around student interventions, crisis management, and the daily operations of the classroom and school team. This position provides development to School-Based Counselors around professional duties and the implementation of the school program. Seneca’s Maya Angelou Academy is a non-public school that provides special education services to students grades K-6 with a variety of emotional, behavioral and/or social needs. We provide individualized attention and direct instruction in core areas in order to help our students make adequate yearly progress on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals while adhering to a general education standards-based curriculum. The goal of our specialized services is to address the behavioral, emotional and developmental challenges of each student in order to prepare them for a less restrictive educational setting. At the same time we provide a rich learning environment to foster pre-academic thinking and growth. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree OR Associate degree and one year of relevant experience OR High school diploma and two years of relevant experience
  • Applicable experience is defined as working with youth in a mental health or classroom-facing capacity
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Valid CA driver's license, clean driving record
  • Reliable transportation to and from the school site and other occasional meeting locations
  • TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements

Responsibilities

  • Work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team with teachers, therapists, and other specialists/educational staff
  • Foster strong therapeutic relationships with students that support engagement at school and in progress towards individualized goals
  • Provide effective onboarding, supervision, and professional development of School-Based Counselors
  • Provide leadership to other staff in implementing the therapeutic-behavioral program, including fostering a strong classroom community, maintaining consistent classroom procedures and routines, and utilizing varied group and individualized interventions that promote student academic learning and personal growth
  • Oversee implementation of students’ Behavior Intervention Plans per students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Provide supervision to ensure a safe environment, overseeing crisis management and adjusting staffing as necessary
  • Utilize crisis communication and de-escalation techniques as per Seneca's crisis response training
  • Contribute to a strong school culture by participating in or leading small group, classroom or schoolwide activities for students that celebrate success and promote joy
  • Communicate effectively with families and all others involved in the daily life of the student, including other Seneca programs or outside agencies
  • Complete and monitor team completion of required data collection and service documentation to measure the effectiveness of services, inform team decision making, and/or engage in service billing
  • Transport clients to and from school as needed with the proper documentation on file with Human Resources.
