The MIG Welder position requires an individual to perform MIG welding on a wide range of components. This position is located at the Hitachi Global Air Power manufacturing facility in Michigan City, Indiana.

Requirements

  • High School Education or equivalent.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and experience necessary to meet the requirements of the departmental assessment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • 1 year of welding experience required
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Understand technical blueprints.
  • Exhibit customer-focused behavior through effective communication with internal customers, peers and leadership team.
  • Computer skills required (i.e., spreadsheets, data entry, email).
  • Ability to use precision measurement device to work within tight tolerances.
  • Ability to work with cranes, sharp edges on machined parts, electrical components and moving parts by carts.
  • Lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Lifting over 35 lbs. requires a lifting device, crane, or assistance from another associate.
  • Standing and walking minimum of 8 hours.
  • Must be able to bend/stoop, squat/crouch, kneel and twist.
  • Must understand and comply with Sullair Safety Standards.
  • Participate in EHS quarterly audits, if required.
  • Required to wear the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the work area.
  • Required to attend scheduled toolbox and safety meetings.
  • Must immediately report injuries or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and overtime.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding Certificate preferred.
  • Welding trades schooling preferred.
  • 5-10+ years of welding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Selecting, measuring, cutting, and joining appropriate metals to specifications.
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of welding techniques, material characteristics and structural fundamentals.
  • Working with different sized bases and frames, structural steel and plate steel weldments.
  • Interpreting specifications and blueprints accurately.
  • Determining correct gas ratios and wire feed speed.
  • Testing the strength of each joint during and after project completion.
  • Driving a forklift, operating cranes and other machinery to transport materials.
  • Ability to operate the Spot Weld and PEM machines
  • Ability to operate the Robotic Weld machines
