About The Position

The Midstream & Marketing Strategy Analyst provides analytical, economic, and execution support to the Midstream & Marketing Strategic Advisor and broader commercial midstream organization. This high-impact role offers direct exposure to strategic decision-making across bpx's multi-basin portfolio, focusing on financial modeling, commercial analysis, data management, and coordination activities that support the development, evaluation, and execution of midstream, downstream, and marketing arrangements. This position plays a key role in enabling informed decision-making, cost optimization, and value realization across bpx's asset portfolio while providing accelerated skill development through diverse technical challenges and direct interaction with senior commercial leadership. The bpx Midstream & Marketing team's scope and complexity continues to expand due to increased development activity, evolving deal structures to maximize netback and flow assurance, and growing involvement in power sourcing/generation, produced water, and emerging energy initiatives. This creates an exceptional opportunity for a high-performing analyst to: * Gain comprehensive exposure across three major U.S. oil & gas basins (Permian, Eagle Ford, Haynesville) * Develop expertise in traditional midstream, emerging energy solutions, and commercial structuring * Work directly with the Head of Midstream & Marketing and Strategic Advisor on high-value negotiations and strategic initiatives * Build a skill set spanning financial analysis, energy economics, and commercial deal execution The Midstream & Marketing Strategy Analyst supports commercial activities across the Permian, Eagle Ford, and Haynesville basins for a broad range of midstream, downstream, and commercial arrangements, providing you with unparalleled breadth of experience including: * Natural gas gathering, treating, compression, processing, and transportation * Crude oil gathering, stabilization, storage, terminaling, intra-basin transportation, long-haul transportation, and buy/sell structures * Natural gas liquids transportation, storage, and marketing arrangements * Produced water gathering, trucking, and disposal * Power, renewable energy, and carbon capture initiatives – positioning you at the forefront of energy transition The role reports to the Head of Midstream & Marketing, with day-to-day support provided to the Midstream & Marketing Strategic Advisor, ensuring regular exposure to senior leadership and strategic discussions. The analyst works closely with internal stakeholders across Finance, Trading, Legal, Land, Operations, and Development – building a robust internal network and developing cross-functional business acumen.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Business Administration, or a related discipline from an accredited university
  • Robust experience in midstream, commercial analytics, energy economics, or a related role
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and financial modeling; experience with Power BI or similar analytics tools; proficiency in AI programs to improve efficiency in performing key accountabilities.
  • Solid understanding of U.S. onshore upstream and midstream businesses
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and data quality
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to support senior stakeholders and work across multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and update economic models, netback analyses, and sensitivity cases to support evaluation of midstream, marketing, power, and produced water agreements
  • Prepare analytical materials, dashboards, and presentations for senior leadership reviews and board-level decision-making
  • Support development of electrification and power sourcing initiatives through analysis of power costs, renewable alternatives, backup power solutions, and related economics – gaining modern experience in energy transition
  • Maintain commercial trackers for midstream contracts, export availability, service costs, and contractual obligations
  • Supervise midstream service costs and prepare variance and trend analyses versus plan
  • Track production deferrals and contracted service availability, proactively identifying risks and opportunities to senior commercial leadership
  • Assist with natural gas balancing activities through data validation, reporting, and coordination with trading and internal stakeholders
  • Coordinate with Finance, Legal, Land, Operations, and Development teams to capture inputs and support execution of commercial agreements
  • Ensure analytical outputs are accurate, timely, and aligned with commercial and operational realities
