About The Position

The Middleware Engineer will support the New York City Department of Social Services (DSS) Middleware Engineering and Integration Services project. This position will be responsible for developing, administering, integrating, and supporting enterprise middleware solutions that enable communication and data exchange across applications and systems. The ideal candidate will have strong application development and middleware experience, including hands-on expertise with enterprise integration platforms, relational databases, web services, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), and modern API and data exchange technologies.

Requirements

  • A minimum of four (4) years of professional experience with the required application development, middleware, integration, and related technical skill sets.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in application software development using middleware platforms and integration tools.
  • Strong experience with data analysis, data access, data structures, data manipulation, database technologies, system design, programming, testing, and implementation.
  • Experience preparing comprehensive technical and user documentation.
  • Experience performing software conversions and migrations.
  • Exposure to diverse computing environments, including: Mainframe systems, Mid-range systems, Personal computers, Laptops
  • Experience working with relational databases, including but not limited to: Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise middleware platform flow development and administration, including IBM Integration Bus or related enterprise integration technologies.
  • Experience with web service development and consumption.
  • Strong knowledge of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) concepts, trends, and standards.
  • Hands-on knowledge of integration and web service technologies, including: XML, JSON, REST APIs, SOAP APIs, XML schemas, WSDL
  • Ability to troubleshoot application integration, middleware, database, and web service issues.
  • Strong analytical, technical documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, configure, and support middleware and application integration solutions.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise middleware flows supporting communication and data exchange between applications.
  • Administer and support enterprise middleware platforms and associated integration components.
  • Develop, consume, configure, and troubleshoot REST and SOAP web services.
  • Support integrations using XML, JSON, XML schemas, WSDL, and related technologies.
  • Apply SOA principles and standards when designing and implementing application integrations.
  • Work with Oracle, SQL Server, and other relational databases to support application and middleware integrations.
  • Perform data analysis, data access, manipulation, and troubleshooting activities in support of integrated systems.
  • Participate in application and integration design, programming, testing, implementation, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Assist with software conversions, migrations, and related implementation activities.
  • Troubleshoot middleware flows, interfaces, web services, and application integration issues.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, system documentation, and user documentation.
  • Collaborate with application developers, database administrators, infrastructure teams, business stakeholders, and other technical resources.
  • Support middleware solutions across diverse computing environments, including mainframe, mid-range, desktop, and other enterprise systems.
