About The Position

The Middleware Administrator is responsible for the advanced design, implementation, administration, and optimization of middleware platforms, ensuring seamless, secure, and scalable delivery of enterprise IT services. The role involves strategic integration of Apache, WebSphere, JBoss, OpenShift, and Kubernetes into mission-critical environments. The incumbent will collaborate closely with project teams, business stakeholders, and technical staff, serving as a technical mentor and knowledge transfer resource. Requirements

  • 7 years of experience in middleware system architecture, development, implementation, and administration.
  • 5 years of experience with IBM WebSphere
  • 5 years of experience with Apache Web Server
  • 5 years of experience with Linux OS
  • 5 years of experience with highly complex application security requirements
  • 4 years of experience in Identity and Access Management; Git/Bitbucket.
  • 3 years of experience with Kubernetes and Docker; system documentation.
  • 2 years of experience with RedHat JBoss
  • 2 years of experience with SoftwareAG Big Memory
  • 2 years of experience with Agile development (Scrum, Kanban).
  • 1 year of experience with ForgeRock Identity & Access Management solutions
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, administer, configure, and optimize middleware technologies including Apache, IBM WebSphere, RedHat JBoss, OpenShift (3+, 4+), and Kubernetes to support enterprise-scale applications and business functions.
  • Perform highly advanced design and development work, contributing technical leadership within project teams, under guidance from Project Manager and Applications Services Management.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve middleware platform issues, ensuring reliable performance and high availability.
  • Install, configure, and administer associated platforms (SoftwareAG Big Memory, ForgeRock) and ensure integration and compatibility with enterprise architecture.
  • Design, debug, and maintain Docker containers, Kubernetes pods, and replication controllers to facilitate modern, cloud-ready application deployment.
  • Collaborate with business customers, section managers, project managers, business analysts, and subject matter experts to define strategies and implementation approaches for middleware and integration solutions.
  • Provide expert guidance and knowledge transfer to development staff; contribute to internal skill building and ensure sustainable operations post-engagement.
  • Conduct and complete system documentation as required for compliance, support, audit, and operational continuity.
  • Apply extensive experience in complex application security to design, configure, and maintain secure middleware environments, especially in Identity and Access Management (IAM) contexts using platforms such as ForgeRock.
  • Adhere to Agile methodologies, actively participate in Scrum and/or Kanban environments, and employ best practices in software development lifecycle (SDLC) management.
  • Utilize version control tools including Git and Bitbucket, promoting collaborative code and configuration management practices.
  • Interface and collaborate with both on-site and remote teams, fostering strong, solution-oriented partnerships across hybrid work arrangements.
  • Attend on-site work as required: 2-3 days per week if residing in Austin, monthly if residing 50+ miles away, and 1-2 times yearly if out-of-state; participate in periodic on-call support as needed.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, reliability, and responsiveness in all customer, team, and cross-departmental interactions.
