About The Position

The Middle School Winter Guard Sponsor will lead and oversee the winter guard program at Bedford Middle School during the winter season. This seasonal position involves working closely with students to enhance their skills in performance, teamwork, and creativity through the art of color guard. The sponsor will be responsible for developing choreography, organizing practices, and coordinating performances while fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all participants.

Requirements

• Previous experience in color guard, dance, or a related field is preferred.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire middle school students.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents, and school staff.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate practice and performance schedules.
• Knowledge of winter guard performance techniques, choreography, and equipment handling.
• First aid and CPR certification is a plus.
• A commitment to promoting inclusivity and fostering a positive team culture.
• Background check clearance as required by school district policies.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive winter guard program, including choreography and training routines.
• Organize and conduct regular practices, ensuring that all students are engaged and progressing in their skills.
• Coordinate performances and competitions, including logistics, travel arrangements, and communication with parents and school administration.
• Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages teamwork, discipline, and personal growth among participants.
• Collaborate with other staff members, including music and band directors, to integrate the winter guard program with other school activities.
• Maintain a safe and respectful environment during all practices and performances.
• Communicate regularly with students and their families regarding schedules, expectations, and any necessary updates.
• Attend winter guard competitions and events as required, providing on-site support and guidance to the students.
• Manage and oversee the winter guard budget, including fundraising efforts and expenses related to costumes, equipment, and travel.
