About The Position

Waukee Middle School is seeking a Middle School Vocal Music Director. This position is for 194 or 196 days, depending on experience within WCSD. The ideal candidate will hold a valid State of Iowa teaching license with a 5-12 Music endorsement, have experience with middle-level learners, and demonstrate aptitude for the tasks listed. The role requires ethical practices and the ability to serve as a role model to students. Alternatives to these qualifications may be considered by the Board.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary director of one non-varsity Show Choir or a Jazz Choir.
  • Create calendar, reserve facilities for rehearsals and performances, and prepare for the year’s vocal music events to include: 3-4 curricular concerts during school year and 3-5 Show Choir or Jazz Choir performances.
  • Create schedule for staff which may include accompanist and show choir choreographer.
  • Organize schedules, parent volunteers, budgets, and other administrative duties for Show Choir or Jazz Choir.
  • Order and maintain inventory of costumes, repertoire, and equipment.
  • Coordinate bus/transportation needs for rehearsals, performances, competitions, and other events as applicable.
  • Prepare 9th Grade students for, coordinate, and supervise student participation at events to include: Opus Honor Choir auditions and festival or similar experience.
  • Assist with hosting the feeder high school’s Show Choir/Jazz Choir Invitational.
  • Communicate with guardians, community, staff, administration, and other stakeholders regarding schedules, competitions, transportation, etc.
  • Collaborate with facility support staff as needed including Operations and Performing Arts Center Management.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the District.
