About The Position

Hope Learning Academy is seeking a full-time Middle School Special Education Teacher in Springfield, IL. Hope is a clinical, educational, and therapeutic provider for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder. The academy focuses on helping children and their families reach their maximum potential through state-of-the-art applied behavioral analysis therapies, recreation, vocational training, and individualized education programming. The mission is to provide the best services in the most inclusive environments to encourage persons to fulfill their individual potential through evidence-based treatment, advocacy, and community education. Since 1957, Hope Learning Academy has led the development of new methods to educate, treat, and care for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization supports certified teachers in obtaining their Special Education certification.

Requirements

Valid Illinois teaching license.
Valid LBS 1 certification (or meet all requirements for short term emergency approval for LBS 1 certification).
Valid Illinois driver’s license.
Ability to meet all licensing standards of the Department of Human Services and the Department of Child and Family Services.

3+ years experience as a Special Education Classroom Teacher.
Previous supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement educational activities and programs in accordance with IEP goals, ensuring educational activities and programs are functional and age-appropriate to promote achievement of each student’s IEP goals.
Plan daily and weekly schedules for each student.
Collect and analyze IEP goal data and evaluate any changes to IEP goals needed.
Prepare assessments and present levels of performance for IEP meetings and participate in development of appropriate IEP goals for students.
Train, supervise, and evaluate classroom lead teacher aide and education specialists.
Maintain current classroom information book, student program books, lesson plans, student’s files, and emergency packets.
Maintain regular communication with parents or guardians regarding students' educational progress, programs, and activities.
Model appropriate behavior to students and staff (manner of speech, appropriate dress, etc.); treat students with dignity and respect.
