About The Position

KIPP Nashville Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Middle School Special Education Teacher for the 2027-28 school year. This role involves managing a caseload, providing direct support to students with special needs, and guiding Lead Teachers to ensure compliance with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). The Special Education Teacher will play a crucial role in Special Education Coordination, including ensuring compliance with federal, state, and district regulations, developing processes for student services, executing RTI processes, administering assessments, and overseeing the development and execution of student IEPs and 504 Plans. Additionally, the role involves Special Education Leadership, meeting with general education teachers to review IEPs and provide strategies, and adapting lesson plans, assessments, and homework to meet individual student goals. The position also includes Curriculum Development and Instruction, requiring the planning and use of appropriate instructional strategies, learning activities, materials, and equipment, as well as using progress-monitoring tools and data to inform instructional decisions and provide daily feedback to students. Requirements

  • Valid Tennessee teaching license with one or more of the following endorsements: Special Education Interventionist K-8 (144), Special Education Interventionist 6-12 (145), Special Education Comprehensive K-12 (461 or 460).
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required or willingness to complete training upon hire.
  • Conferred Bachelor’s degree.
  • Pass Criminal Background Check.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload and provide direct support for students with special needs.
  • Provide critical guidance to Lead Teachers to ensure compliance with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and meet the needs of students with special needs.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district Special Education and ELL regulations.
  • Develop processes for entering and exiting students into services.
  • Design and execute RTI process for behavior and academics.
  • Administer relevant assessments.
  • Oversee the development, revision, and execution of student IEPs and 504 Plans.
  • Lead IEP and 504 Plan meetings.
  • Meet with general education teachers to review IEPs, answer questions, and provide strategies and supports.
  • Adapt and differentiate general education teachers’ weekly lesson plans, assessments, and homework to meet individual student goals.
  • Support teacher development in serving Special Education and Multilingual Learner students through individual coaching and group professional development.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of individual students.
  • Use progress-monitoring tools to analyze student results for the purpose of modifying and adjusting strategies, programming, and IEPs.
  • Use data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Provide students with daily feedback on mastery performance in character and academics and plan for individual learning needs.
  • Demonstrate strong pedagogy.

  • Help develop school-wide culture that best fits the needs of our students, teachers and families.
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings and communicate openly with staff.
