About The Position

Develops and implements an instructional program that will effectively provide the best possible education for each student. This role requires a teacher who can establish and implement daily written lesson plans, evaluate student learning and revise instruction accordingly, and structure teaching to encourage independent thinking by students. The teacher will effectively prepare and use instructional materials and technology resources, maintain appropriate expectations for all students, differentiate instruction, and maintain appropriate student classroom behavior. Demonstrating knowledge of the subject/grade, resourcefulness, flexibility, and enthusiasm for teaching are key. The position involves utilizing strategies to meet class objectives, student needs, and abilities, effectively motivating students, and managing instructional time wisely. The teacher will model acceptable written and oral expressions and effectively communicate with students, parents, and the community, providing appropriate feedback to students. Professionalism and community relations are also crucial, including using measures of student learning to improve instruction, modeling professional, moral, and ethical standards, and participating in meaningful and continuous professional development. The role requires working in a collegial and collaborative manner with peers, staff, parents, and community resources to support the success of a diverse student population, providing services to the professional, the school division, and/or the community. Good attendance and punctuality, timely submission of required reports and meeting deadlines, maintaining accurate records, following proper channels of communication, and maintaining confidentiality are expected. The teacher must be familiar with and abide by School Board policies, regulations, and school procedures, taking all industry standard precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintaining appropriate state licensure, assuming responsibility for and participating in staff development to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date, following appropriate safety procedures, and properly maintaining equipment are also essential. Active participation in and attendance at all required meetings, compliance with and support of school division policies, regulations, procedures, and the HCPS Strategic Plan, and performing other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor are also part of the role.

Requirements

Possesses or qualify for a Virginia Collegiate Professional license with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned.
Possesses outstanding knowledge and skill in the assigned instructional area and demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and the learning process.
Demonstrates knowledge of instructional strategies and skills related to scientifically-based research and its implementation.
Native or near-native proficiency in spoken and written Spanish and English.
Proficiency in the use of a variety of instructional technology including computers with experience in Microsoft Office, email and other applications.
Emotionally mature, objective and sensitive to people and their concerns.
Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, staff, co-workers and community agencies.
Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks.
Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in the use of a variety of office/instructional equipment and technology with experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and email.
Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.
