Responsibilities

  • Provide academic instruction for students who are deaf and hard of hearing in their primary mode of communication within a residential education setting.
  • Individual and small group instruction in academic areas such as reading, math, science, etc. as well as any non-academic areas, if necessary, which may be addressed by the IEP for students K-12 depending on placement at Supervisor’s discretion.
  • Become knowledgeable about and implement assigned curricula.
  • Implement daily-prepared lessons.
  • Utilize acquired and accumulated materials, resources, and manipulatives.
  • Assess and document students’ progress and performance.
  • Plan instructional activities.
  • Prepare IEP’s.
  • Attend to individual problems relating to student progress, performance, or behavior.
  • Prepare report cards.
  • Supervise and instruct teaching assistants.
  • Gather and/or prepare instructional materials.
  • Supervise student teachers and/or observers from various colleges.
  • Participate in school related activities.
  • Attend committee meetings and in–service workshops.
  • Plan and implement field trips.
  • Administer formal and informal test/assessments.
  • Communicate with other programs (residential, student support, etc.) on & off campus.
  • Serve as liaison between the residential and academic staff, between academic staff and parents, between academic staff and local educational agencies, etc.
  • Serve as resource person for other schools.
  • Administer, proctor, compile, and submit any and all state mandated tests, portfolios, & inventories.
  • Uphold state policies/procedures for testing at all times.
  • Have daily contact with a number of staff members, campus-wide, as well as the general public.
  • Have daily contact with supervisor concerning duties to be performed.
  • Contact office concerning daily bus duty or Friday bus duty.
  • Daily student contact (giving out passes, getting students to appointments, getting information from students, etc.).
  • Disseminate information on daily/weekly/monthly reports.
  • Complete confidential information to other agencies, determining (with guidance when uncertain) what may and may not be released.
  • Receive, compile, file and disseminate information from other on and off campus service providers pertaining to middle school students.
  • Assist the supervisor in verifying and updating the campus inventory as it pertains to the middle school.
  • Understand, effectively communicate and implement the goals and objectives of the program and curriculum (state or alternate).
  • Ensure IEP goals/objectives are implemented and documented appropriately.
