About The Position

Secondary education teachers participate as members of the instructional staff to direct the learning experiences of students. Secondary education teachers work toward attaining the general and specific objectives of their subject area, of the school, and of the school district. Secondary education teachers work coordinately with the elementary specialists as well as other Secondary education teachers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or an acceptable equivalent
• Active and valid Teaching Certificate issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the assignment or position.

Responsibilities

• Plan long and short range objectives for each course taught, consistent with school goals.
• Select and use a variety of materials and provide appropriate learning experiences considering both the subject matter and the development of the child.
• Collect information about students assigned to their classes that will help in planning appropriate learning experiences.
• Establish standards for individual students in terms of each student's ability.
• Use a variety of activities to develop each student's interest.
• Provide the opportunity for students to cooperatively plan some of their learning experiences.
• Create an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, social, emotional, and moral development of the students.
• Control the behavior and activities of the students in order that the goals may be obtained.
• Help students understand the subject matter by using various generalizations, concept formations, and principles.
• Determine the nature and extent of direction needed to attain goals.
• Assist in the grouping of students.
• Use the system in force to evaluate students and report to parents.
• Report the attendance of students as directed by the administration.
• Serve in various monitoring capacities and attend evening programs, faculty meetings, inservice programs, and serve on district and building committees as established by the Secondary education teachers association agreement or district policy.
• Participate in appropriate professional organizations and continue his/her own professional growth by attending conferences, workshops, reading, or by attending graduate school.
• Accept special assignments within his/her own area of expertise.

• Salary, work year, and other terms and conditions of employment as established by contract between Whitehall-Coplay School District, the Elementary School Secondary education teacher, and the Whitehall-Coplay School District Board of Directors.
