About The Position

Carolus Online Academy (COA), a Stride K12 partner school, is seeking a state-certified Middle School Physical Education Teacher to deliver course content in an online environment. The teacher provides instruction, support, and guidance; manages the learning process; focuses on individual student needs; and monitors student progress through Stride K12’s learning management system. The teacher works closely with students and parents or learning coaches to help students progress toward established goals.

This is a full-time virtual position. Teachers typically work from home and must maintain a professional, distraction-free home office during the workday, typically 9–5 or 8–4, as defined by the school. The role requires the ability to work independently, typically 40 or more hours per week, and travel as required, on average once per month and/or approximately 20% of the time, for professional development, student testing, and other school functions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Active state teaching license.
• South Carolina Department of Education Physical Education Teaching Certification.
• Must reside in South Carolina.
• Ability to clear the required background check.
• Ability to work independently, typically 40 or more hours per week.
• Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
• Ability to maintain teacher certification and professional development hours, and fluency in K12 systems, programs, and curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
• Personalize learning for all students and demonstrate belief in their ability to succeed and meet high expectations.
• Differentiate instruction based on each student’s level of mastery.
• Augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures, using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools under guidance from the principal and coach.
• Maintain the grade book, uphold student academic integrity, make student placement and promotion decisions, and alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress.
• Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests.
• Establish and maintain positive rapport with families, and communicate with and respond to students and learning coaches or parents in a timely manner.
• Support learning coaches and parents with student curricular and instructional issues, as well as basic troubleshooting in the virtual classroom, in line with academy policies and procedures.
• Travel as required for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and other school needs.
