Middle School PE Assistant Teacher (Immediate Hire)
About The Position
Arts in Action Community Middle School opened in Fall 2016 and serves grades 6-8 students. We believe that all students deserve access to the arts. We believe that instruction should be culturally relevant, inclusive and meet the diverse needs of all learners. Searching for a collaborative and ready to learn candidate who has prior experience working with students (ideally prior middle school experience) and experience coaching or participating in sports. This position includes during the school day responsibilities (helping to lead the Physical Education program with the PE teacher) and after-school PE responsibilities.
Requirements
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree
- Ability to adapt to program requirements and needs
- Driver’s License
Nice To Haves
- At least one year of experience working with students in grades 6th-8th (or similar age levels)
- Comfort driving students to and from sports events (using school transportation)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
Responsibilities
- Co-lead daily PE lessons, drills, and skill-building activities for middle school students
- Support with the planning and implementation of a comprehensive, standards-aligned physical education program
- Promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and inclusive participation
- Assist in organizing fitness assessments and tracking student progress
- Support classroom management and ensure safe, structured learning environments during PE classes
- Set up and break down equipment for daily instruction and special events
- Monitor student safety and respond appropriately to injuries or behavioral concerns
- Collaborate with school staff to align PE programming with overall student wellness goals
- Assist with school-wide fitness events, tournaments, and spirit activities
- Support and help lead after-school sports and PE programming
