About The Position

To lead students towards the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological growth through learning orchestral music. Creating excellence in music performance.

Requirements

  • Valid Kentucky Teacher Certificate
  • Teaching Certificate for Instrumental Music all grades
  • Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer, e-mail, and websites
  • Subject matter in area of assignment
  • Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities
  • Curriculum, instruction and assessment
  • Short and long-range planning techniques applicable to area of specialty
  • Record-keeping skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities
  • Pedagogy in area of certification

Nice To Haves

  • Past experience in a successful school orchestra program is preferred.
  • Outstanding experience with violin and viola is preferred, but not required for consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting performances with 6-7-8 orchestra classes
  • Participation and creation of extra-curricular string ensembles and/or elective classes
  • Collaborative teaching model that involves two teachers engaged at all times in class
  • Participation in district and regional clinics, auditions and performances with students
  • Performances in a wide range of community and school events
  • Responsible for the financial and organizational oversight of the middle school orchestra program.
  • Participation in fine arts PLC and other professional learning activities
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and times designated.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning with the limits of the resources available.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, consistent with the space and technology available.
  • Strives to work within the district’s philosophy and commitment of Every Art for Every Child.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Is knowledgeable of the learning abilities of students and evaluates student progress regularly.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records as required by state and local policies.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policies.
  • Makes provision to be available to students and parents for educational purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms through conference days.
  • Individually and cooperatively with other teachers, supervises students in and out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on assigned committees.
  • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods.
  • Assist in the selection of materials and equipment for their area.
  • Accepts a shared responsibility for co-curricular activities.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of their assigned students.
  • Establishes and maintains a cooperative relationship with others.
  • Provides for his/her own professional growth in accordance with state/local/federal guidelines.
  • Represents the school and community effectively and in a positive manner.
  • Maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours.
  • Meets the Standards and Indicators set forth in the Certified Personnel Evaluation Plan.
  • Abides by the Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified School Personnel.
  • Adheres to the requirements of the District or school employee handbook, Owensboro Public Schools policies, and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Performs all other functions deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor that are reasonable and are covered by local policy or law.
