About The Position

The Middle School Multilingual Learner Learning Specialist will play a crucial role in the English as a New Language (ENL) program, providing targeted instruction and support to multilingual learners (MLs) to help them achieve their language goals.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of English as a New Language teaching experience.
  • New York State Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certification OR Special Education Certification.
  • Master’s Degree in Education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted small group instruction and in-class accommodations to students to help them achieve their learning and language goals.
  • Offer a range of instructional, management, and assessment strategies to meet the diverse language needs of students.
  • Analyze student achievement and language proficiency data to inform strategic instructional decisions.
  • Maintain updated ML data, including snapshots, rosters, and progress monitoring data.
  • Design and/or execute school-based professional development to enhance educators' capacity in supporting academic and language development for ML students.
  • Coordinate parent communication as needed.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams across content areas to modify and differentiate instruction, implementing strategies in the classroom.
  • Execute all steps of the ML identification process in accordance with state guidelines and identify language goals for students with limited English proficiency.
  • Manage testing administration for ML identification and language proficiency, including processing HLIS forms, NYSITELL, NYSESLAT, and WIDA.
  • Attend and actively participate in all meetings, including PLCs, grade-level meetings, and PD sessions.
  • Foster an environment built on restorative practices by ensuring students build relationships and repair harm.
  • Assist with non-instructional supervision of students, such as arrival/dismissal, hallway monitoring, lunch and playground duty, or supervision of extracurricular activities.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed.
