About The Position

The Academy of St. Matthias the Apostle in Lanham, Maryland is seeking a full-time Middle School Math Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. This role reports to the Principal and offers a salary range of $52,000 to $58,000 with excellent benefits. The teacher will be responsible for planning, instruction, classroom management, communication with parents and administration, fostering Catholic identity, and performing non-instructional duties. The position requires a Bachelor's degree and current teacher certification in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC (with a three-year window to obtain certification if not currently held). Knowledge of child development and supervision is essential, and experience teaching in an elementary school setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create lesson plans that align with the Archdiocese of Washington Academic and Religious Standards.
  • Utilize standardized test scores and other assessments to adjust lesson plans and inform instruction.
  • Plan lessons that are learner-based and address the various needs of all students.
  • Deliver a balanced program of instruction incorporating direct instruction, guided instruction, individual/group practice, questioning, demonstration, and discovery.
  • Plan individual and group instruction including lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities.
  • Administer formal and informal assessments to determine if instructional objectives are met.
  • Use assessment data to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students.
  • Assign classwork and homework that support lesson objectives and reinforce the learning process.
  • Establish classroom procedures that optimize instructional time.
  • Create and enforce clear rules that foster a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment based on mutual respect and cooperation.
  • Set high expectations for student achievement.
  • Ensure Catholic values are the basis of all student-teacher interactions.
  • Maintain a grade book reflecting student progress on formative and summative assessments.
  • Monitor student grades and communicate status to parents and administration.
  • Inform students and parents of assignments/projects with detailed instructions, rubrics, and due dates.
  • Routinely post up-to-date information (homework, projects, grades) to the school's grade book portal.
  • Use email, notes home, and phone calls to inform parents of academic or behavioral concerns.
  • Hold conferences with parents for students needing academic or behavioral intervention.
  • Produce quarterly progress reports and report cards.
  • Actively foster and support Catholic beliefs, traditions, practices, and tenets of the Catholic faith.
  • Reflect the Catholic Church's teaching on social justice and witness service to others.
  • Assist in the planning of liturgical ceremonies such as mass, penance services, and prayer services.
  • Lead and encourage prayer in the classroom.
  • Plan and teach religion classes (if applicable) that align with ADW Religion Standards.
  • Attend Catholic liturgical ceremonies as required.
  • Perform non-instructional duties such as carpool, recess, lunch, and classroom teacher substitution as required.
  • Sponsor clubs and other school activities as required.
  • Attend Home and School meetings and other after-hours school events as required.
  • Participate in all required faculty and professional development meetings.
  • Obtain required religious certification as required.
