About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Middle School Math and Science Teacher to join our inner-city Catholic school community. The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of the students in the Catholic school for whom the teacher is responsible within the framework of the school’s philosophy, organization, and curriculum. The Teacher has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. The ideal candidate will be an actively practicing Catholic committed to our School's Mission, shaping compassionate, knowledgeable, and Christ-centered individuals. The candidate will possess the skills and empathy to meet the diverse needs of our student population with a desire to make a positive impact in their lives. The position is hired and evaluated by the principal.

Requirements

  • Actively practicing Catholic committed to our School's Mission
  • Possess the skills and empathy to meet the diverse needs of our student population
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Math, Science or related field
  • Valid teaching credential or certification, with eligibility for licensure in the state of Texas
  • Meets the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese and TCCED
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to establish a positive and structured learning environment, even in challenging circumstances
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience in working with students facing adversity, trauma, or other barriers to learning
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with a focus on building relationships and partnerships with students, families, and colleagues

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree
  • Prior teaching experience in an inner-city school setting, preferably with middle school students
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies for teaching history and religion to diverse learners, including those with learning differences
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and reflective practice to continually improve teaching effectiveness and meet the evolving needs of our student population

Responsibilities

  • Foster a supportive and nurturing classroom environment where all students feel valued, respected, and empowered to succeed academically and spiritually.
  • Incorporate engaging learning activities to integrate history and religious studies to life, connecting classroom content to students' lived experiences, community contexts and cross-curricular integration.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, providing appropriate accommodations and modifications as needed to ensure equitable access to the curriculum and student success.
  • Utilize restorative practices to address conflict resolution, behavior management, and support students' mental and emotional well-being.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and assessment to students, tracking their academic progress and growth in historical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and religious understanding.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, providing updates on student progress, behavior, and any concerns, and collaborating with families to support students' academic and personal development.
  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
  • Abides by the Confidentiality Policy set forth in the Diocese Employee Handbook
  • Plans for instruction with logically sequenced objectives, based on adopted curriculum and submitted according to the local school policy
  • Provides appropriate material and resources for students to engage in learning
  • Uses effective instructional methods/models according to professional standard practice
  • Uses varied assessment tools to perform both formative and summative assessments
  • Provides instruction and assessment for understanding
  • Maintains current and accurate records according to school policy
  • Practices positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom
  • Proactively communicates with parents regarding academic, behavioral, or safety concerns
  • Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese/local administration
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
  • Responsible for all other projects, tasks, committees, etc., as assigned.
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning
  • Conferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates gains in student performance that are in keeping with school goals
  • Demonstrates a willingness to respond to individual learning needs.
