About The Position

St. John’s seeks to hire a part-time Latin teacher to teach three sections of middle school Latin. One of the courses is a co-taught class with a religious studies teacher on the history, culture, and stories found in the Gospels and the Roman Empire. The ideal candidate would be able to teach all levels of Latin language, literature, and culture, while using technology as a vehicle for learning gains. We are particularly interested in candidates experienced with the ACL Standards for Classical Language Learning and familiar with the use of communicative and comprehensible Latin language teaching methods in support of traditional reading ability.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of teaching experience (or applicable practicum experience).
  • A bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in Latin education and/or Latin language, literature, and culture.
  • Fluency in the Latin language is required.
  • Commitment to multiculturalism and diversity that is manifested in classroom practice, communication, and curricular decisions.
  • Deep appreciation for student-centered, engaging, and innovative teaching practices.
  • Solution-oriented, embraces challenges, and displays a thorough work ethic.

Nice To Haves
