About The Position

Open Window School (K-8, coed, 360 student day school) seeks candidates for its Middle School Innovation & Technology Associate Teacher position. This role will support grades 5-8 advanced computer science curriculum and instruction in our fully outfitted Innovation & Technology Lab. The Associate Teacher will assist in teaching advanced computer science and design thinking skills, as well as collaborate with faculty to design and coordinate interdisciplinary activities and elective courses. The ideal candidate will have a passion for computer science, design thinking, and project-based learning, as well as experience or interest in working in a student-centered, collaborative, and inquiry-based educational environment. Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree and/or relevant experience.
  • Experience working with middle school students, preferably in a classroom setting.
  • Interested in computer science, design thinking, and project-based learning.
  • Creative, resourceful, adaptive, and flexible.
  • Ability to quickly pivot from one responsibility to another to meet team needs.
  • Organized and responsible.
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team.
  • Supports active engagement in serving a diverse community in a culture of belonging.
  • An interest in the social-emotional development of adolescents.

Nice To Haves

  • Computer science degree or teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with intellectually gifted children a plus.
  • Teaching certificate or coursework relevant to education and/or computer science a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the teaching of grades 5-8 computer science courses and electives.
  • Assist with the organization, maintenance, and inventory of hardware, software, and other materials in the Innovation & Technology Lab.
  • Ensure safety of students as they use Innovation & Technology Lab tools.
  • Support positive behavior and student responsibility in the classroom.
  • Take initiative with the tasks that keep a classroom running smoothly.
  • Support a learning environment that engages students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Assume the Lead Innovation & Technology Teacher role when necessary.
  • Serve as a substitute teacher when needed in all subject areas of the middle school.
  • Support students 1:1 and small group in tutorial.
  • Lead a student club and a student leadership group.
  • Be a collaborate partner with the associate teacher team to design and implement student team building activities or other projects for our advisory program.
  • Chaperone overnight trips and field trips.
  • Attend required in service days, meetings, seminars and training sessions.
  • Engage actively in the school community by attending and participating in school events, sometimes in the evening.
