About The Position

Great Hearts Academies is seeking passionate, life-long learners to shape students' hearts and minds at Great Hearts Harveston Upper School. As a growing network of classical, liberal arts schools, Great Hearts provides K-12 students with a high-quality education focused on intellectual and moral development. Teachers at Great Hearts lead students with intelligence, charisma, humor, moral integrity, and example, fostering a love of learning through the pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness. The middle school history curriculum includes Introduction to the American Tradition (6th grade), Louisiana History and Medieval History (7th grade), and Ancient History (8th grade), utilizing Great Books, primary sources, and a Socratic, seminar-style approach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher degree is required for a lead teaching role.
  • US work authorization is required.
  • Acceptance of OPT/CPT candidates.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification is not required for general education teaching roles.
  • All majors are welcome.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom that supports the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
  • Provide appropriate academic support to students, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address academic or behavioral needs in a timely manner.
  • Uphold and model the culture, policies, and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful and orderly school environment.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering strong home-school partnerships.
  • Participate fully in the life of the academy through faculty collaboration, school events, assigned duties, and a shared commitment to ongoing professional growth and excellence in teaching.
