About The Position

The head track coach will be responsible for the development, organization and implementation of the entire track program, as well as in the provision of leadership to track personnel and student athletes. The coach must adhere Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) rules and regulations relative to the track program. Work day consists of time, after completion of the school day, necessary to adequately prepare the coach’s team for competition. Also, he/she must sometimes work weekends and holidays as determined by the preparedness of his/her team. The coach must maintain security of electronic and print records with regard to confidentiality of student information and passwords that are issued for access to databases. Provides overall supervision of the track program within the guidelines of JPPSS, policies, rules and regulations. Maintains, issues, inventories and orders all new equipment. Maintains all records specified by JPPSS. Scheduling games and relative activities pertaining to track. Builds sportsmanship as well as provides good public relations in the school and community. Ensures all student athletes have a current physical exam. Ensures that all student athletes have adequate insurance coverage as specified by JPPSS and that proper documentation on each student signed by the parent / legal guardian to purchase or decline extra insurance exists. Keeps the principal and faculty informed of departure times for trips as well as ensures that all participants have transportation home when returning from road trips. Maintains team statistics. Participates in professional development through workshops, literature, clinics and seminars. Acquires thirty-six (36) Continuing Learning Units (CLUs) per year (July 1 through June 30). Adheres to Parish requirements for promptly reporting rosters, schedules, scores, eligibility or documentation of incidents or injuries. Cooperates, communicates and works with the parish athletic director and administrator in charge of athletics. Performs all duties as assigned by the principal and or appropriate administrator.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate in Standard English, both orally and in writing and or digitally
  • Ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system
  • Ability to communicate successfully and tactfully with students, parents and school personnel while following JPPSS policies
  • Ability to accurately communicate with members of the media
  • Ability to represent the school and or school system at various functions
  • Ability to accurately compile and access data, summarize information and provide written reports to his/her supervisor
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate, CECP completion and/or current LHSAA requirements
  • Employment with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as a teacher and/or administrator
  • Meeting the requirements in Article 3.3 (Faculty Coaches) of the LHSAA handbook
  • Demonstrated expertise, knowledge and competency in basic track fundamentals
  • Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations for track
  • Expertise, knowledge and competency in conditioning of athletes sport specific

Nice To Haves

  • Previous playing experience in track preferred (on college or university level; minimum experience on high school level)
  • Previous coaching experience on the junior varsity, junior high/middle school or other recreation activity level in track
  • Expertise, knowledge and competency in first aid for the prevention and treatment of track injuries
  • Possess a CDL class B or above with a P and S endorsement free of air brake restrictions
  • Meet all requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component
