About The Position

The Iowa City Community School District is seeking an Athletic Coach for Middle School Girls Wrestling. The primary goal is to provide skills that engage all levels of athletes and promote physical activity to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize educational opportunities for each child. The coach will be responsible for developing athletes to their fullest potential, starting with basic fundamentals and progressing to advanced skills. This role requires a positive professional relationship with players, coaches, parents, and fans, along with an enthusiastic attitude and understanding of intermediate and high school students in an athletic setting. The coach will also assist in monitoring academic records and ensuring eligibility, provide adequate supervision, and work cooperatively with other programs. Willingness to work during the summer, weekends, and other allowable times is expected to maintain a championship program. Supporting the health and wellbeing of student athletes and maintaining active CPR certification are also key responsibilities. Additional duties may be assigned by administration.

Requirements

  • Iowa Coaching Certification
  • Coaching experience
  • Experience working with junior high and/or high school youth
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Must maintain active CPR certification

Responsibilities

  • Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Iowa City Board of Education
  • Work to form a positive professional relationship with players, coaches, parents and fans.
  • Possess an enthusiastic attitude and ability to understand intermediate and high school students in an athletic setting.
  • Assist in monitoring academic records of student/athletes while following district/state eligibility rules.
  • Provide adequate supervision before, during, and after all practices and competition.
  • Develop athletes to their fullest potential, starting with teaching basic fundamentals of the sport and progressing to skills beyond what is considered average.
  • Willing to work cooperatively with other programs.
  • Willing to work in the summer, on weekends, and at other allowable times in order to maintain a championship program.
  • Willingness to perform additional duties as requested by administration.
  • Supporting the health and wellbeing of student athletes.
  • Maintain active CPR certification
  • Other duties as assigned
